Location: On the train to Vienna (transfer at Salzburg)
Hi! We're right now travelling to Salzburg and will transfer to a train to Vienna at 0908. Will be spending the next 2 days in Vienna and Neela's just given us an overview of what we'll be seeing and it's exciting stuff! Vienna's really famous for coffee, which unfortunately I don't drink, but if it's got enough chocolate, I might just try some.
Yesterday, our plane landed smoothly. We got pasta for dinner so I decided to stick to Continental veg food for the return journey as I actually ate all the meals they served! (very rare). Luggage took a while to come and after that we saw Krups holding a placard saying "NEELA & ARCH - SINGAPORE". It was so nice to reunite!
Met Krupa after her long holiday in London!
Just changed trains and this one's completely packed. We're now sharing a cabin with a Syrian couple. Had to dump our backpacks on the overhead compartment. No mean feat! Oh btw, before reaching Salzburg, these two guys came to our cabin and asked for our passports. Very randomly. And I'd read about these fake "plainclothes policemen" in Budapest who demand to see your passports and run off with them (madness) so I was a bit apprehensive. Then it suddenly dawned on us that we'd just entered Austria from Germany. But really. These guys looked like they'd hopped into the train from a nearby farm and not at all like policemen! Very random. And it was so different from the US. My Schengen visa still hasn't been stamped and they didn't even ask any questions on why I was in Europe!
Anyway, yesterday after we left the Munich airport (which was huge and beautiful), we reached Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) at 2120. From there, our hostel was a 5min walk away on a rather quiet street. It wasn't even on the map provided by the airport so it was a nice surprise when a German woman came to us, offering help when she saw us looking confused and lost. Hostel was decent, and exceeded my v low expectations (the reviews didn't give me much hope).
We'd booked a 12-bed dorm but ended up alone in a 6-bed dorm so it was really good! Bathrooms were a bit cramped though and had nothing but a shower curtain!!! Luckily no one else was there when I was using the shower but stillll! Why do these Europeans not care about privacy! We'll be staying here on our last night as well so I really hope it's ok! And also hope the other hostels aren't like this. But it was really clean, thankfully.

I couldn't sleep past 5.45am this morning. The sun was up by 5! And sets only at 9.30pm, so we have nice long days. I'll go talk to the girls now. Bye!
